Introduction
This letter was written by John the Apostle to believers whom he cared about. He addressed them as “little children” whom he was giving advice on how to live their lives as believers in Christ. He further lets them understand that knowing Jesus, is knowing God the Father; and that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.

KEY VERSES FROM 1, 2 & 3 JOHN
1 JOHN
- Eternal life which was with the Father, has appeared to us: 1 John 1:1-2, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched-this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us” (NIV).
- Our Fellowship: 1 John 1:3, “….and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ” (KVJ).
- God is Light: 1 John 1:5, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (KJV).
- The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin: 1 John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (KJV).
- Jesus Christ is our Avocate with the Father: 1 John 2:1-2, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense-Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (NIV).
- Do not love the world: 1 John 2:15, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (KJV).
