1. It leads to Salvation
When we hear the Word of God preached, His goodness leads us to Salvation through Jesus Christ.
In Romans 1:16, Paul the Apostle said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (KJV).
2. It will give you guidance
We all in guidance so that we can make the right decisions. God gives us guidance through His word.
Psalm 119: 105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (KJV).
Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (KJV).
3. Jesus said we are to live by the Word of God
In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (KJV).
Also, in John 6:63, he said, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
The word quickeneth means to make alive.
4. The Word of God will keep you from sin
When you know what the word of God says about adultery, stealing, gossip, etc., you will be able to avoid doing the things that grieve God’s heart
Psalm 119:9 says, “
Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (KJV).
5. God’s Word will protect you
In Psalm 91:4 the Bible says, “…His truth shall be thy shield and buckler” (KJV). Jesus said in John 17:17, that the word of God is Truth.
6. You will have wisdom
The Amplified version defines wisdom as “comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God.” (Proverbs 4:11).
You will have insight into how to live successfully in every area of your life.
Psalm 119:97-100 says, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they ever with me. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts” (NIV).
7. You will grow in your Faith in God
Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (KJV).
Every time you read or listen to the word of God, your faith in God gets stronger and stronger. And 1 John 5:4 says we overcome by our faith in God. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (KJV).
As you grow in your walk of faith, your desire to obey God’s word will grow stronger. And that, “my friend,” pleases God. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that it is impossible to please God without faith.

8. Your prayers will be answered
When you read the word of God, you will naturally want to pray the scriptures. And when you pray the scriptures, you are praying the will of God. Thus, your prayers will be answered.
1 John 5:14-15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask
9. God’s word heals your body
Reading the Bible is not the same thing as reading a novel, or a textbook. The Bible is a life-giving book. Hence Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 that not only do we live by bread alone, but we also live by the word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 tells us that “…the word of God is living and active.
Proverbs 4:20-22 says the following about God’s word.
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (KJV).
Also, Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (KJV).
10. The word of God is your weapon
When we read the word of God, we learn of His promises to us. Knowing and believing His promises enables us to resist the attacks of the devil.
Ephesians 6:17 says the word of God is “sword of the spirit.” When we use the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God, the devil will flee from us. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (KJV).
It is my prayer that you will be inspired to read and study the word of God even more. There is nothing in this world that can minister healing, joy, peace, prosperity, contentment, growth, success, like the word of God.
Hence, in Joshua 1:8 God said, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (NIV).

It’s amazing how reading the bible can steer you closer to god and avoid being tempted into sin. My friend is interested in trying new hobbies that can take up most of his free time. Maybe he should consider trying out online bible classes in the future.
