I. Where does fear come from?
Here is the answer, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7, KJV). The New International Version says it this
II. How do we open the door to fear?
We open the door to fear by focussing on the negative things that are going on in our lives. We have to focus on the solution to the problem so that it can be solved.
It may be difficult to believe but, there is a solution to every problem in this life. However, fear keeps us from wanting to seek help or come up with a solution. When you live in fear, you won’t accomplish your purpose and that is what the devil wants. Fear opens the door to the devil, and faith allows God to work in our lives. Everything with God works by faith.
Another way in which we open the door to fear is by focussing on all the negative things that are happening in this world. For instance, some of us watch the news for hours on a daily basis.
Yes, we need to be aware of what is going on in
For example, assuming you heard on the news that thousands of people are going to catch the flu and maybe die. If you keep watching the news on how many people are going to get sick, you will start thinking that you are going to be one of those people.
Then you will start saying it over and over until you catch a cold. What you don’t realize is that you heard it on the news, believed it, and it manifested.
III. What did Jesus say about fear?
Jesus said, “Be not afraid, only believe”. Jesus was speaking to the ruler of the synagogue who had asked him to come and heal his daughter. Mark 5:22-23 says, “Then a leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet, pleading fervently with him. “My little daughter is dying,” he said. “Please come and lay your hands on her; heal her so she can live” (NLT).
While he was waiting for Jesus to come to his house, he got the message that his daughter had died. Mark 5:36 says, “As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe” (KJV).
He wanted him to know that what he had already asked Jesus for, would come to pass. When Jesus got to Jairus’ house, “..He took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha
The negative words we hear spoken or the negative thoughts we may have, lead to fear. But, Jesus is saying to us not to be afraid, but believe. Yes, it may be a fact that something fearful has happened. Yet, Jesus is still saying do not fear.
Also, in Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand” (NLT). God is always with us. He said He will never leave us or forsake us, Hebrews 13:5.
IV. How to resist fear?
You resist fear with the word of God. James 4:7 says, “…Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you” (AMP). The word of God mixed with faith is
1 John 2:14 says, “…I write to you, young men, because you are strong and vigorous and the Word of God is [always] abiding in you (in your hearts), and you have been victorious over the wicked one” (Amplified).
V. Prayer against the Spirit Of Fear
Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I thank you that you have not given me the spirit of fear; but of power, love, and of a sound mind. I cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God; and I bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
I take authority over the spirit of fear and I command it to leave my mind and my life. I have the mind of Christ; and I think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and things that are of good report and that are praiseworthy. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
