Key Lessons in the book of Romans:
- Justification is by Faith only: We cannot do anything to make ourselves right with God. We receive righteousness when we confess Jesus Christ, the Messiah, as our Lord and Saviour. Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness
; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (KJV).
- Believers are to live by faith: Everything with God works by faith. We have faith in His promises to the believer of Christ. Romans 1:17 says, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith” (KJV).
- The Grace of God works by faith: Romans 4:16 says, “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all” (KJV).
- God is at peace with us because of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we
stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (KJV).
- Sin does not have dominion over us: Now that we are under the Grace of God, sin should not power over us. We now have in us the power of God to resist sin. God is not going to make us do what is right. His grace has given us the ability to resist it. Romans 6: 12-14 says, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under
law , but under grace” (NIV).
- Our life is in the Spirit: Romans 8:1-4 says, ” Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit” (NIV).
